Mediation Services

Wirral Mediation Service is based in Tranmere and accepts cases from all areas of Wirral.

The service is independent,impartial and free of charge to Wirral residents. The Mediators are fully trained and work to guidelines laid down by Mediation UK.

Officially launched in Oct 2003 the service attracts support from Wirral Borough Council, the Anti Social Behaviour Team and Community Safety.

In its first year the service has

• Dealt with 125 referrals
• Mediated in 80 cases
• Trained 16 volunteer mediators
• Worked in partnership with more than 30 agencies

This year the Birkenhead County Court has also agreed to use the service.

What is Mediation?

Mediation is a process in which an impartial third party helps people to reach a mutually acceptable agreement.

When Can Mediation Help?

• Both parties are willing to participate

• Misunderstanding or lack of communication are partly to blame

• Your own efforts to negotiate have failed

• Conflict is continuing or escalating

• A dispute or conflict suddenly arises

 

When Is Mediation Appropriate?

• Noise nuisance
• Property disputes
• Clash of lifestyles
• Parking problems
• Harrassment
• Anti social behaviour

 

Points to Remember

• The service is impartial regardless of who made initial contact with the service.

• The process is voluntary and either party can withdraw at any point.

• No information will be passed to any other agency without your consent.

• Mediation may not work in every case but has a high success rate.

 

What if Mediation does not work?

• We will provide information about other agencies that may be able to help.

• We will continue to offer support and advice.
